East of 52 Launches: A New Voice for Unfiltered, Local Journalism in East County

In a time when independent journalism is disappearing and local issues are too often overlooked, a new publication is stepping in to fill the gap.

East of 52 was founded on a simple but urgent principle: Our communities deserve to be informed — not ignored. Built from the ground up by a local resident, this grassroots newsroom will focus on the stories that affect East County residents most — even if those stories are inconvenient to those in power.

For years, residents in areas east of San Diego have seen their voices dismissed, their concerns minimized, and their questions left unanswered. From school board controversies to mismanaged public funds, from zoning decisions to HOA conflicts — these issues deserve scrutiny. East of 52 will provide that scrutiny.

“I started this because I couldn’t get answers. I couldn’t get coverage. And I realized: maybe no one’s coming — maybe we have to do this ourselves.”

Unlike larger outlets driven by ad revenue and engagement metrics, East of 52 is built on the foundational principles of integrity, accountability, and transparency. This is not a gossip page or a partisan mouthpiece. This is investigative reporting for the people who live here.

The publication will accept tips, verify stories through multiple sources, and uphold the highest journalistic standards, including source protection and correction policies. Its mission is clear: shine a light where others won’t, and give East County residents a reliable, independent source of truth.

This is not just about one story. It’s about the right to know.
It’s about reclaiming the power of local news.
