In recent days, parents and local residents have voiced confusion and frustration after Mr. Robbins, a well-regarded teacher at Rio Seco Middle School, is being relocated by the Santee School District. Multiple posts and comments on Facebook groups dedicated to Santee families describe the situation as follows:
Mr. Robbins reportedly raised concerns about a fellow teacher’s lack of engagement and commitment, especially related to Associated Student Body (ASB) activities.
This teacher is said to have a close personal relationship with an administrator on campus. The nature of this relationship is unclear- if it is only a shared housing situation, or more.
Following these events, the teacher allegedly filed a complaint alleging a hostile work environment. Soon after, Mr. Robbins was being slated to be moved to a different school site.
Many parents and students describe Mr. Robbins as a “gem” and a vital asset to the school community, heightening the upset over his relocation.
Social media responses include:
“There are people outside the district office showing support for Mr. Robbins, but posts about the situation keep getting deleted — raising fears of silencing parental voices.” — Parent comment, Santee M.o.m.s Facebook group
“The district appears to be quietly moving people around instead of addressing the real issues — much like how some organizations sweep problems under the rug.” — Community member
“Most teachers at Rio are wonderful, but losing great ones like Mr. Robbins hurts the entire student body.” — Concerned parent
The Santee School District has not issued an official statement on the matter. Some group administrators have expressed concerns about potential liability for slander and misinformation in online discussions, which has led to some posts being removed.
