Your Voice Matters Here

Your insights shape our stories. We believe in the power of grassroots reporting and local voices. Share your tips and experiences to help us cover the news that matters most to our community.

Submissions without verifiable contact info may not be published unless corroborated.

Submit a Tip

We welcome tips, leads, and story ideas from our community. Your voice matters — and it helps shine a light on stories that might otherwise go untold.

If you’re submitting a tip:

  • Please include any details or evidence that can help us verify the information.

  • Please provide an email address or contact method so we can follow up with questions. Even a burner email is okay.

  • You can also reach out via our social media pages if that’s more comfortable.

All sources are confidential.
We will never reveal your identity unless you explicitly give us permission. Anonymous tips are always welcome, but we may not be able to investigate unverified claims without a way to confirm key details.

We are committed to protecting our sources — and to reporting with accuracy, integrity, and transparency.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Tip Submissions

Under California’s Shield Law (Cal. Const. Art. I, § 2(b) & Evidence Code § 1070) and broader First Amendment protections, journalists are not required to disclose the identity of confidential sources or unpublished information, even in legal proceedings.

What this means for you:

  • If you submit a tip or provide information to East of 52, your identity is protected by law if you request confidentiality.

  • We do not share, sell, or disclose the identity of any source without explicit permission.

  • Anonymous submissions are welcomed. However, to verify and report a tip, we request submitters to provide a method of contact, such as an email address or anonymous account, such as a burner or temporary email account.

  • Feel Free to contact via social media for more streamlined tip reporting.

These protections are essential to a free and independent press — and to our ability to report on issues that matter, especially when others want to keep them hidden.

Anything of public interest happening in East County — from school concerns to local government issues, policy changes, safety hazards, HOA issues, or community matters that deserve a spotlight. If you think it matters, we want to hear about it.

We evaluate every submission for accuracy, credibility, and public impact. If the information is verifiable and newsworthy, we may begin an investigation or include it in ongoing coverage. Your identity will remain confidential unless you’ve given us written permission otherwise.

The more detail, the better. Dates, locations, names (if relevant), what happened, and how you know — plus any evidence like screenshots, documents, or links. If you’re not sure how much to say, just share what you can.

If you’ve left a way to contact you, we may follow up with questions. If not, we’ll still review your submission internally. We can’t guarantee that every tip will become a story, but every one is read and considered carefully.

You can use a generic email address, anonymous social media account, or encrypted messaging apps. Just make sure you include enough detail for us to verify the story.

We review submissions promptly. If the story is verifiable and newsworthy, it may be investigated and developed into a published piece. Not all tips result in stories, but every one is taken seriously.

“Without some protection for seeking out the news, freedom of the press could be eviscerated.”
