To the Dehesa School Board Members

East of 52 is publishing this open letter on behalf of parents and community members who feel their voices have gone unheard. This letter represents a collective call for transparency, accountability, and the right to be involved in decisions that affect our children. A digital signable version is available for those who wish to add their name and send it directly to the Dehesa School Board.

We, the parents, staff, and community members of Dehesa School are formally requesting the removal of Mr. Bradly Johnson from his position as School Superintendent.

It is our strong belief that Mr. Johnson has not made any meaningful or positive contributions to the Dehesa school community. On the contrary, we feel that his leadership, along with that of his personal assistants, has directly contributed to a number of negative developments within the school over the past few months and years. these include the dismissals of numerous staff members and entire teams, which has created a hostile and divided atmosphere.

This disruption has led to growing concerns, frustration and distrust among parents, students, staff, and the larger community of Dehesa Valley. We contend that the current situation in leadership has damaged the school’s reputation and morale.

Furthermore, we believe that anyone hold the position of a school superintendent should possess a background in education, specifically, credentials such as a teaching certificate or significant hands on experience working in schools. Also, he was not granted an official waiver or emergency permit by the CTC. As voters, families, and the taxpayers of the Dehesa community who entrusted you with theses positions, we ask you hear our concerns and take swift, appropriate action to address this matter. We are committed to seeing our school thrive under leadership that serves the best interest of our students, staff, and families.

Sincerely,

The Concerned parents and community member of the Dehesa School.

Clarification for readers:

The parents’ Open Letter questions credentials. The district is using the waiver path: a governing-board waiver (Ed. Code § 35029) and a Temporary County Certificate from the San Diego County Office of Education. East of 52 is not the author of the Open Letter (which we thought was very apparent) and confirms—based on CPRA responses—that Mr. Johnson does not hold an Administrative Services Credential or any CTC-issued educator credential. Links to the CPRA responses and relevant CTC lookup records are provided within the article.

Charter schools were created in the spirit of innovation and flexibility—but with billions in public funds flowing into private hands and virtually no voter accountability, the promise of “choice” now comes at the expense of public trust, transparency, and educational equity.
